About Capricorn Coast

Welcome to the Capricorn Coast in Central Queensland – a magical coastline that is exciting, diverse and breathtakingly beautiful.

Easily accessible by road, rail, coach and air, the Capricorn Coast is only a 30-minute drive from the beef capital of Australia, Rockhampton and only 600 kilometres from Queensland’s capital, Brisbane.

The Livingstone Shire sits nestled along the beautiful Capricorn Coast and covers approximately 11,776 square kilometres, with a population of almost 36,000 residents.

A picturesque system of 13 beaches across 95 kilometres of Capricorn coastline, you can enjoy a beach to yourself with views of Great Keppel and North Keppel Islands as well as many smaller islands, which act as stepping-stones to the wonders of the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Yeppoon, the Coast’s major town, has retained its village style appeal and was runner up in the 2021 Top Tourism Town Awards. Aside from being home to exceptional restaurants, wonderful cafés and a string of markets and boutiques, the burgeoning coastal culture hub also has a proud arts scene, perfectly reflected in the modern, quirky and vibrant street art dotted about town.

Just a scenic 20 kilometre drive along the coast from Yeppoon, Emu Park is a peaceful coastal village.

Emu Park is home to the famous Singing Ship sculpture and the Centenary of ANZAC Memorial Walk. The boardwalk hugs the coastline and features information on the First World War’s many major battles.

Only 25 minutes north from Yeppoon, you can discover the lush rainforests of Byfield and spectacular scenery of the surrounding parks and forests. The Byfield National Park and State Forest abounds with wonderful scenery, rolling sand dunes, beaches, rainforest-edged creeks and rugged mountains.

The Keppels is a locality that includes a group of spectacular islands in the Coral Sea within the Livingstone Shire. Great Keppel Island and Pumpkin Island are both popular islands for visitors and are accessible via a 30-minute ferry ride departing from Rosslyn Bay.
